The Sojourner Truth Multicultural Art Museum & Development Center’s (SoJo) objective is to promote personal and civic well-being in our community through promoting fine, applied, and performing arts. We believe that a desire to participate in and experience creativity is critical to human expression and development.
We achieve our objective by improving access to and exposure to art, developing understanding and appreciation of art through educational and academic programs, and inviting community members of all ages to actively participate in the creation and promotion of art.
All members of our diverse Sacramento community are recognized, praised, and included in all facets of our organization, which emphasizes multiculturalism. We recognize that art, as a necessary and all-encompassing part of life, has the power to create an environment conducive to healthy cultural interaction. Art has also been shown to aid in the learning of intellectual skills in literature, science, and mathematics. Art must be a priority in human development for these reasons.
Children, teens, adults, families, and organizations from the local community, the greater Sacramento area, and other Northern California locales participate in our art and personal development programs as a result of our active outreach activities.
